The free internet: Nowadays, the internet and mobile phones have become a necessity for people. In the era of internet, no work can be done without data and calling. In today time, mobile is used to do any work whether it is calling a doctor, calling an ambulance or talking to anyone. Seeing this, the government has come up with many offers for its people in which it is giving free data and talk time.
Where did the concept of free internet come from?
America is the most developed country in the world and from there this free internet was started. The US government runs an offer for poor people there, in which it gives free internet and talk time to every family. To get this offer, the citizens of America have to meet certain terms and conditions.
Will there be free internet in India?
Like the United States, free internet can now be started in India. This offer will be given to the poor families of India. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has suggested this free internet to the Indian government. To give good speed in this offer, the government has been recommended to keep the internet speed 2 Mbps broadband.
Why is the plan in cold storage?
So far, the Indian government has not responded to the proposal. At present, this plan of TRAI is in cold storage, as there has been a dispute over freebies and subsidies for a long time. The AAP and Congress governments in Delhi are giving free electricity and water in many states, which is putting a huge burden on the exchequer of the government. Also, free ration is being provided in some states.
Why is the work going on at a slow pace?
However, the Indian government is yet to take a decision in this regard. At the moment, this proposal of TRAI is quiet, because there has been a dispute on giving free internet and subsidy for a long time. The Aam Aadmi Party and the Congress government have given free water and electricity in many states, due to which the government lacks funds, and in some places, free ration is also being given.
The scheme offers a subsidy of Rs 200.
TRAI had requested the Indian government to give a subsidy of up to ₹200 to all poor families who will be given broadband internet connectivity. This offer is for the rural area, which will directly benefit the people. This money will go directly to the people accounts. They won’t have a problem with that.
