You will be surprised to know that there is a place in the country where all its lights are turned off for some reason as soon as the train arrives. It is located near the Tambaram railway station in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
If any local train passes through this place, then all the lights of the train automatically turn off. Surprisingly, this happens only with local trains, while no such thing is seen in superfast and express trains and they keep getting lights.
According to media reports, this is because there is no current in OHE at this place. The equipment which provides power to the electric locomotive, there is no current in the over head equipment. Such a place is called a natural section. Such a place is made by the railway itself which aims to maintain the overhead voltage and current. This is called the CUT current and from this place the new current zone starts.
Due to this, the light supply in the train stops for some distance and such a problem arises due to the new current zone. The lights installed in the local train are connected to the driver cabin and their power system is also different and it is affected by this place. The power supply in a local train passes through the driver cabin. The driver cabin is equipped with a power system that takes power from the HOE and supplies it to the entire train.
